1. Installation - Return to top

Extract the zipped package downloaded from ThemeForest to your desktop. In the extracted package find elements-blog.zip. This is the Wordpress theme main file.

You can install the theme by either uploading the main theme folder via FTP (unzipped) or the zipped file via the Wordpress theme upload section:

After uploading the theme navigate to Appearance -> Themes page to activate the theme.

TIP: Check this page for common Wordpress Installation issues
IMPORTANT: If your site has content we highly recommend regenerating all thumbnails with the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin. It will insure that all your images fit perfectly with the new theme.

2. Demo Content - Return to top

Sample Data isn't automatically added to your site, instead there are specific files included with the theme. Follow these steps to import the demo content to your site.

  1. Install and activate all bundled and compatible plugins.
  2. Make sure that 'WordPress Importer' is install. To install the 'WordPress Importer' navigate to Tools -> Import and install 'WordPress Importer'.
  3. Once 'WordPress Importer' is installed, navigate to Tools -> Import -> Run Importer -> Choose file and upload an xml file from the "Demo Content' folder inside the 'elements-blog-main.zip file.

After the theme is installed and activated you will be prompted to install recommended plugins.


Click "Begin Installing Plugins" and install plugins one-by-one.

Elements Blog theme supports three menu localtions: Primary Menu, Secondary (Header) Menu and Footer Menu.

To setup a menu, navigate to Appearance -> Menus page. Add a menu item from the left panels (Pages, Links, Categories). You can manage your menus using the drag and drop functionality. Check 'Primary Menu', 'Secondary Menu' or 'Footer Menu' box to place the menu in the desired location. After setting up your menu, hit the "Save" button.

Mega Menu

Mega menus display posts from specific categories inside a mega menu. BTL Mega Menus have sub-category support and can display posts from multiple categories.


To create a category mega menu go to Appearance -> Menus. Add a menu item from the left panels (Pages, Links, Categories). Click on the menu item and select the Category that you want to use. You can also display up to three rows in your mega-menu.

TIP: Use a parent category with sub-categories to display a mega menu with sub-categories. Make sure that a mega menu does not have sub-menus.

5. Theme Customization - Return to top

The Theme Customization Panel helps you customize your theme any way you like. You can upload your logo and favicon, style the appearance with custom colors or background, change background color of header and footer, turn features on and off, hide/show elements, paste the Analytics code etc.

To access theme options, go to Appearance -> Customize. The Customizer has the following sections:

6. Featured Slider - Return to top

To set up the Featured Slider, navigate to Appearance -> Customize -> Slider Settings, check any or all "Enable Slider" boxes to display the slider on a selected page and Save. Here you can choose between five slider styles and also type of posts you'd like to display: 1) Recent Posts, 2) Posts from a category, 3) Posts from a tag list, 4) Posts by IDs.

Note: It's important that the posts appearing in your slider have a featured image attached to them.

To set up the Featured Posts Area go to Appearance -> Customize -> Featured Posts. Check the box to display featured posts and enter post IDs.

8. Widgets - Return to top Return to Plugins

Elements Blog has 13 custom widgets and 5 widget areas: Sidebar and 4 Footer Widget Areas:

To use Elements Blog custom widgets install BTL Custom Widgets plugin. Refer to Plugins section on how to install custom plugins.

Navigate to Appearance -> Widgets to add widgets to selected widget area.


9. Post Formats - Return to top Return to Plugins

Elements Blog supports 7 post formats: Standard, Gallery, Image, Audio, Video, Quote and Link. Each format has a custom field (except Standard and image) for simple content making.

To use Elements Blog custom metaboxes BTL Metaboxes plugin. Refer to Plugins section on how to install custom plugins.

Navigate to Posts -> Add New and choose your post format from the right side of the panel.


10. Shortcodes - Return to top Return to Plugins

Elements Blog comes with more than 20 shortcodes. To start using shortcodes, install BTL Shortcodes plugins. (See section two for details on how to install plugins). Navigate to Posts -> Add New and add shortcodes to the post content.


11. Contact Form 7 - Return to top Return to Plugins

We have included custom styling for the Contact Form 7 Plugin. To setup your contact form, activate Contact Form 7 plugin (see section two for details). Refer to Contact Form 7 Docs on how to fine-tune your contact form.
